This is another technique in making your own cardstock flowers that a dear friend of mine Helen Croft was kind enough to share with me! She has a wonderful blogsite at which she shares many of the fun ideas she has found Scrap-A-Little She kindly allowed me to use her photos (and dialogue) to share this technique with all of you!

Here comes another card stock rose tutorial! This one is super simple! Will take you about 10 minutes to make.

All you need is;

  • scraps of card stock
  • fast drying glue
  • scissors
Optional:

  • ink
  • glimmer mist

Cut out a spiral with diameter about 4 ". Usually I don't even draw on the card stock. I just cut away. Make sure to leave a spot in the middle about 1".

Ink the edges if you like and then comes the trick..to bend down the edges. This makes all the difference.

Start from the outside and roll towars the middle. Another trick is to try to roll the bottom edge a little bit tighter than the top edge. So that the rose will kind of get a cone shape.When you are done rolling up the rose, put glue in the middle part and press the whole rose on top and hold down for a while.You can finish off with glimmer mist and hand cut some leaves and attach under the rose.

I think the results are so pretty!! Helen got the idea from Nancy Burke's blog .....Nancy uses the same technique but makes a wavey edge for another lovely effect!

I love these! I've done them. I saw them on Nancy's blog and had to try them. It took me 4 tries, but I figured it out! lol I'm a little challenged that way. I'll try to take a picture tomorrow. I used the wavy edge scissors.

One little hint. When you are making these, be sure to have your spirals pretty close together. The width of your 'strip' is how tall your rose will turn out. My first one way HUGE and there was no way it would work in an album. These really are quick once you get the hang of it.

Oh... I used a hot glue gun to hold them in place and it worked like a charm.

Well, I tried it out last night when I was working on some of my DT stuff. It was a lot of fun making these roses!! I cut a more wavey spiral to get the effect on the these flowers.....

Gabi please excuse the brain fart. But how is that it looks like layers instead of just one circle do you do more then one? I haven't tried yet. Maybe I just need to.

Virginia, instead of a straight spiral as in the picture above, I did a wavey line to make the spiral. That gives the petals a different look. It is still one spiral piece to make each flower (in the above photo I clustered 3 roses together). And I used Robbie's suggestion of using a hot glue gun to hold it all together. The whole rose tends to rest on the center of the spiral so I put a bit of hot glue there and hold it down for a second. It makes a very strong and sturdy rose.
