I've just been in love with the look of sheer blooms lately. And I know that some of the member's have been asking how I did the sheer bloom on one of my l/o's a few months ago. Here is a quick little tutorial on making a couple of different style sheer blooms....

Here are a few supplies that would come in handy when making the above flowers:
*wide organza ribbons (or organza fabric)
*Stickles or glitter glue
*scissors
*needle & thread in matching colours to your ribbon
*seed beads, flower stamens, pearls, crystals (for centers)
*a scented candle, heehee just because it smells nice! (and matches)

I'll start with the flat style blooms. First cut out two X shapes in the organza fabric or ribbon (the larger the ribbon, the larger the bloom).... Then outline the edges of the fabric with a coordinating Stickles glitter glue, and add a few decorative lines on the petals.....

When its dry, layer the two X's using a little sticky tape in the middle of the two layers. Finish it off by adding a foam pop dot and covering it with the glitter glue (you can also use stick-on crystals or pearls for the centers).....

Now for the Sheer Rose design. For this you will cut out a few wavey edged circles from your organza ribbon or fabric. I also cut some leaf shapes from some sheer green ribbon. Try to stagger the size of the wavey circles you cut......

Now here is the fun part! Light a candle and bring the edge of the organza pieces to the side of the candle, SLOWLY. The heat of the candle will melt the organza and make it curl like the edges of a flower petal. Try not to get a perfect circle when melting the edges, you want to keep a bit of a wave to the edges (just melt random edges a little deeper) You'll use the same process on the edges of the leaves, but very lightly melted.

Now layer your pieces, largest to smallest. take a needle and thread and attach them together in the middle adding a few seed beads to accent the center. (you can also attach your leaves at this point if you are using them ....

There you have it! Try experimenting with multiple colour ribbons or different centers......and remember always use proper procautions when using an open flame!

And just to give credit where credit is due....I first saw this tutorial for burnt edge organza blooms at this wonderful site last Spring. http://calamitykim.typepad.com/calamity_ki...lamity-kim.html and another (check out her beautiful colours combinations!) http://emisnaps.wordpress.com/2009/04/20/burned-edges-82/ I understand that some people are claiming this is an original copywritten tutorial/idea done by another site more recently but actually this is a technique that has been around for quite some time.

Thank you so much Gabi!

I am going to give it a try..........

I'm just a bit worried about the candle, as with my luck, I'll end up burning something, (or someone! LOL!)
