We all have at least one picture that would be awesome if it didn't have that trash can in the background or maybe that ugly kitchen wallpaper. Sometimes a strategically placed flower just won't cover up the problem. One of my favorite techniques is to actually cut out the portion of the picture that I want to scrap. Using a standard craft knife (and a cutting mat), take your time and carefully cut around the image. Then, let your imagination run wild! I find that using adhesive foam to attach these cut outs really gives them a great 3-D effect. Give it a shot! It's really fun and the results make for unique LO with a lot of character.

Here are a few examples of LO's I've done to inspire you:

You do a fabulous job with that, Julie...these all look great! I, on the other hand, would not even attempt it. I'm terrible with my craft knife...I just know I'd mess it up. Maybe if I practiced on a picture I don't care so much about. Hmmmm

For obvious reasons, I find it's easiest to cut out images that don't have a lot of "details". For example, it's easier to cut around a head of hair than it is to cut around someone's profile. Definitely practice! If it seems intimidating - get double prints... just in case.

I did this once, and it was so nerve wracking, I haven't tried it again. i should, though, cause it turned out ok. I had a picture of my parents with a terrible background, and another picture with great scenery. I cut out my parents and put them in the scenery. smile.gif

Great tip, Julie! I haven't done that in a long time, Actually, I'm hesitant to cut up my photos for some reason...and I print all of my own photos too! Go figure! I think that was one of my first objections to scrapping when my sister wanted me to go to a "crop" with her. She kept saying something about cropping the pics and all I could think was, I don't WANT to cut up my pictures!!!

NOW, I know the difference! laugh.gif

Great tips Julie, I remember my first scrapbook page--Uh!!! I cut my photos in all sorts of hearts and stars..That is the wrong way to cut a photo.
This sounds like a great idea to make a image pop off a page.
I wonder if it would work to take two photo and cut around an image and using
pop dots layer it onto the 2nd photo to make it 3-D. Just an idea

I will have to give your technique a try---sounds like fun

great examples

Great tip Julie!!! you're right, sometimes a bloom just won't cover well......I have on occasion used a cloning program to take 'garbage' out of the background but I've never tried cutting up my photo!! I just love the effect you got on your l/o's with those trimmed photos!!.....soooo retro!! .....I'm going to have to give this a try!

Pam, love your idea with the pop dots!

Yes Gabi like you I have cloned out some things in the background. But it isn't always easy, so will have to try Julie's tip on vutting out the photo.
