If you are like me...have little time and little money wink.gif , you might appreciate this easy tutorial on sueding your chipboard. All you need are a few simple items:

Chalk
Sharpie
Chipboard Letters

Step One - Take one of your sharpie markers and saturate your chipboard with color.

Step Two - Before the marker is dry, rub some chalk into the color.

Step Three - use the same technique on all your letters and other chipboard items for a sueded, finished look that is quick and easy.

Here are a few examples:

Also - forgive my not so great photos..my scraproom is tucked away in an attic and the light is not so good. Not to mention how hard it is to take photos with your left hand (hee, hee)

Girls - I just realized I should have gotten a manicure before I took these photos! Apparently I have not had enough water today and Colorado is so hard on your skin. Ick - my hands look so dry.

Glad you like the technique - let me know how it goes.

It definitely stays on enough to leave a coated suede look to it. You may want to gently blow on the letters after you chalk to get rid of some of the excess chalk. The trick is to make sure the marker is still wet when you apply the chalk and then you will have more success.

Good luck.

Lynn - I know you are a big fan of the Wilma letters. Hope those metallic markers work.

What a wonderful technique Liz!!! now I've got to get me some chalks.....question.....would old powder eyeshadows work for this?.......I remember years ago trying out some chalking on paper and someone gave the tip to use powder eyeshadows if you don't want to purchase a big chalk kit?

I bet eye shadow would give a wonderful sheen to the chipboard. It may not be sueded looking like the chalk, but I bet it would look cool. I say try it to see if the make up mixes with the marker. smile.gif

Thanks so much for the tips Liz! I just love and excuse to dig out my chalks as they often get forgotten.

I tried the eyeshadow before and it seems to work well if you put in on with the Versamark ink or Veramark pen...the Versamark is kinda sticky so it holds it!!
