Some of you have probably noticed that I really enjoy working with glitter!! I'm going to show you a few of my favourite techniques for working with the sparkly stuff
![]() I have two ways I like to cover my chipboard in glitter. The first is by using Art Institute clear glue. I am sure that any good quality clear drying glue would work well. I take a piece of chipboard and put it on a scrap piece of paper. I cover my chipboard completely and evenly in glue and then I pour tons of glitter on top. I just let the whole jar come out and then I leave the chipboard sitting there under the glitter until it is completely dry. When it is dry I tap the excess glitter off and return it to the jar. ![]() ![]() The other way I like to glitter chipboard is to use Glossy Accents or any other similar dimensional glossy finish (like Crystal Effects etc). I cover the chipboard in the Glossy Accents and then put a jar of glitter over the top. The Glossy Accents takes longer to dry than the glue. After it dries and you tap off the excess glitter, you can take more Glossy Accents and put it layer of it over the top of your glittered chipboard and it seals in the glitter and not a spec of glitter will come off after you do that. ![]() ![]() Leave it like this until it dries: ![]() If you like the look of glitter but hate the mess, then glitter glue is a great alternative. You can buy Stickles or basically any no name brand from Walmart or any department store...even dollar stores. For the clear glitter glue I just use the store brand but for black or brown glitter glue I use Stickles. I use the brown & black Stickles to edge chipboard, pattern paper, cards, lace etc. Sometimes I use go along the edges and leave it at that. It looks a little thick when it is going on but it dries quite a bit smaller. Sometimes I use my finger to smoosh the glitter glue over a larger area for complete coverage. ![]() ![]()

Also, if you use a Zig or similar glue pen, you can get a very subtle look. Just use your glue pen lightly over the area you want glittered and put on some loose glitter and shake off the excess.
![]() ![]() ![]() Another option when working with loose glitter is a heat set glue pad. The glue pad that I have allows you to stamp your image, heat it with the embossing gun and then you apply your loose glitter. ![]() ![]() You can also buy glittered embossing powder which is easy to use with your stamps and heat gun and there is a lot less mess with this method as well. Once the glittered embossing powder is heat set then you won't have stray glitter following you around ![]() My favourite loose glitters to work with are Martha Stewart and Doodlebug -------------------- |

I like to use the clear glitter glue for the edges of flowers and for more subtle effects on pattern paper. Don't worry if a little too much comes out. It dries thinner and if you make a mistake you can just use your finger or a tissue to clean up the excess.

Great tips on using glitter. I'm always too lazy to clean up the mess so I never get the stuff out, but I love how your projects look with it. Thanks for inspiring me.

Julie-- I am also voting Amanda ---Glitter Goddess---we bow to your talent....
Honestly when I try using glitter everyone in my house runs for cover. I get it everywhere, the dog has never been so sparkly...hehe I can't help myself it's like I am a glitter magnet--but no fear I will not give up. I am just moving on to the bottled glue like stickles. Amanda really I love your tutorial and I will pull out and dust off my glitter and give each one of these a try.. Thank you for sharing. So many great ideas. Wonderful job!!! Pam |

Wow!! Go Amanda!!! Great tutorial and I can't wait to try the glossy accents technique! I especially love that idea for the darker colors of glitter.
My favorite glitter is Art Institute glitter. I love their glue, too! Just to add another idea to your's. One of the neat things I like to do lately is use my Souffle or Glaze pens as a 'glue'. Sometimes I want a really fine line and glue just doesn't do the trick. I can also write alot straighter than I can glue. Here is a close up of what I mean. ![]() I used a white souffle pen on these. They dry slow enough to allow you to add glitter, but you can't wait. I outlined 1/2 of the letter then added glitter. Shake it off, wait a couple of minutes to make sure it's set and then do the other side. Another great thing about this idea is that Art Institute makes a clear utra fine glitter. If you use a colored Souffle Pen or a Glaze pen, the color comes through. In this manner, you can have any of those colors simply by buying clear glitter. Here is another example. ![]() For this one, I used a red Glaze Pen and added clear glitter. -------------------- ~Robbie~

Thanks for the kind words gals!
I'm messy with it too... I (and my household) have just learned that glitter is a part of our lives (kind of like dog hair LOL) so we cope with it -------------------- |

Awesome tutorial Amanda!! Love how you showed all the different ways to use glitter! both powder and wet!!.....another medium that works well with glitter is Diamond Glaze....you use it in a similar way as you use Glossy accents.
I noticed you have the little bottles of Doodlebug 'sugar' glitter. Doodlebug also makes these cool 2 sided sticky shapes, flourishes, blooms etc. that you can add to your page and then just shake on the 'sugar' for a really beautifully defined glitter finish! Here's a close up of one of those flourish stickers with some bronze glitter..... ![]() Another fun place to use glitter is on home-made cardstock blooms and on buttons to dress them up!!.....I used this idea on a l/o I did for the December kit (can you tell we're all on a glitter kick lately??? LOL!!)..... ![]() Another fun way I used glitter on my DT layouts this month is mixing them with metalic dimensional squeeze paints, I got this jewelled look using gold dimensional paint and stickles (actually a necessity to cover up a boo-boo LOL!)..... ![]() ![]() -------------------- |
